If you’re not a senior portrait photographer, here’s how it works:
1. To market to next year’s seniors in the high schools, savvy senior portrait photographers recruit influential and photogenic high school students to be the studio’s representatives inside the school. Senior Reps can be found anywhere: Craigslist ads, community fliers, ads in the school newspaper (if available) or Facebook. Recruiting Senior Reps is a great reason to send out an email blast to your customer list.
When selecting Senior Reps, they should be enthusiastic about the job and should be someone you’ll be proud to represent your business. Remember, they will be the face and the image of your studio in the eyes of next year’s senior class.
2. The photographer creates a different 8.5×8.5″ or 10×10″ photo book for each Senior Rep showing them posed in each of the different styles and sets the studio will use for the upcoming season. These styles and sets are created in consultation with all the Senior Reps so that each season’s “look” is different from the last (pizza party at the studio?).
3. The Senior Reps take their books to school in May, show their friends, and give them a business card with the Senior Rep’s name on it and the studio contact information. Often the card will include a small incentive for setting an appointment like additional free wallets, coupons for free food, etc.
4. For every senior who places an order using a Senior Rep’s card, the Senior Rep may get a cash bonus or the equivalent value off their senior portrait session. the Studio may offer a prize like an iPod to the Senior Rep with the most referrals. You could use the coupon to give the Senior Rep a free 16×20″ portrait.
If you’re a senior portrait photographer and you aren’t running this program, there is still time to get started. This could be the perfect program to increase your sales next fall.
